PRINCIPLES OF STUDY
Six Lessons with Delphi presents the
principles which are the foundation of the heart-mind program
of The Sanctuary School. In an engaging style, sparking imagination
and inviting joyful participation, Six Lessons
with Delphi introduces children to a wise golden retriever
who with love and humor teaches the value of harmlessness, compassion,
and respect for all life. With each lesson, children are encouraged
and allowed to communicate from their heart, and "heart
magic" is proclaimed as a way of life. Delphi's lessons
confirm and reinforce the original world of children--by which
they see life as a circle and loving community--and supports
their pursuit and expression of the natural state of their whole
self.
Six Lessons with Delphi tells us that
every person has a special place in our world. Each child has
a special gift that will make our earth a happy and beautiful
place to live. If in early childhood, the young person is supported
and encouraged to express and honor his/her gift to the community,
we will see far less aggressiveness, competitiveness, envy, and
jealousy in the child. When the young person understands that
every child is special and is on this earth to contribute to
the circle of life, harassment and bullying in school and in
the community will cease.
Six Lessons with Delphi unites children
with their natural friends and trusted companions--those of the
animal kingdom. Because the child is introduced to Six
Lessons with Delphi--kindness and partnership with all life--the
child will have a grounding in harmlessness, community responsibility,
leadership, and the companionship of all life.
The attitudes, relationships and range of creativity that
are explored and developed through Six Lessons
with Delphi are applied in all studies, projects and community
service that children participate in to meet curriculum requirements.
For teachers, the syllabus Teaching Delphi,
highlights the themes and student-teacher interactions that are
emphasized in the six lessons. It also provides an outline of
the written and experiential learning exercises that are included
in each lesson, and offers supplemental activities and questions.
